Genetic Disorders

Genetic Disorders

There are between 4000 and 6000 genetic disorders. It is estimated that one in 25 children is affected by a genetic disorder and therefore 30 000 babies and children are newly diagnosed in the UK each year. Some genetic disorders are apparent at birth while others are diagnosed at different stages throughout childhood, and sometimes into adulthood. (Genetic Disorders UK web site).

Children can show signs of developmental delay, not reaching milestones or physical weakness and poor mobility. Craniaa specialises in physiotherapy techniques to improve your child’s development, functional independence and physical skills.

Craniaa uses the Universal Exercise Unit also know as cage therapy to support and promote active movement patterns using, bungee cords, slings, pulleys and weights. We provide bungee supported treadmill walking which our young patients love. Soft play equipment, soft obstacle courses and motorised exercise devices help to make therapy fun. Our therapy incorporates training to improve, strength, balance and coordination, gait (walking), fine motor skills and hand therapy in a safe and fun environment. Typical physiotherapy sessions last for 1hour to 1½hours.
